The former CM of Jharkhand, Babulal Marandi, has sought the suspension of the Dhanbad SSP, Sanjeev Kumar, over the alleged murder of Additional District Judge, Uttam Anand. Marandi, in his letter to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, has asked for strict action against the SSP and him to be suspended for his negligence.
The Additional District Judge, Uttam Anand, was allegedly killed after an auto-rickshaw rammed into him. The former CM Marandi also questioned the conduct of the said SSP and his shoddy record as the SP of Palamu, where he had failed to solve the abduction of an elderly couple. Despite this, Sanjeev Kumar was promoted to SSP Dhanbad. Marandi has also attributed the rise of crime to the incompetence of such police officers.
In the light of the gruesome murder of the ADJ, Uttam Anand, the Supreme Court of India had taken sou motu notice of the incident and directed the Chief Secretary and DGP of Jharkhand to furnish a joint report on the status of the inquiry into the incident within a week.
The Supreme Court of India observed that the death could have huge ramifications and also stated to fix the security of the judges in the country. The High Court of Jharkhand too after taking a suo motu cognisance has ordered the formation of a special investigation team to probe into the case.
The CM of Jharkhand met the families of the deceased and assured justice. The Government of Jharkhand has now handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Uttam Anand was on a morning job in Dhanbad when he rammed down by an auto-rickshaw on July 28. Until the video of the incident surfaced, the incident was considered to be a hit and run case.
The police later seized the vehicle, which is registered in a woman’s name, and arrested the two accused who confessed to the crime. Interestingly, the auto-rickshaw recovered from Giridih was stolen at around 2 AM and the crime reportedly had taken place at 5 AM.
