PM Modi is visiting the US from June 21-24. This is his sixth visit as prime minister and first official state visit to the US. This visit is seen of great strategic importance in order to strengthen the ties between India and the United Nations. PM Modi’s meeting with many important think tanks of the US has also been scheduled during this visit. He will meet the U.S leadership , members of Congress , American CEO’s, and the members of the Indo-American community during this visit.
He reached the US on June 20 and was greeted with a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour at the Andrews Air base.
On the first day of this visit i.e. 21 June which also marked the International Yoga Day hon’ble PM led the celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters. Further he held bilateral talks with president Joe Biden in Washington. He also gifted a handcrafted sandalwood box to US President Joe Biden, and a lab-grown 7.5 carat green diamond to First Lady Jill Biden during this meeting. The sandalwood box contains a silver idol of Lord Ganesha and an oil lamp. While the U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden presented PM Modi with a handmade, antique American book galley from the early 20th Century.
Besides, he was welcomed by President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden in the White house decorated with peacocks and lotus bloom. They also hosted a vegetarian dinner for PM Modi. On 21st June he also held discussions with leaders such as met leading American economist Prof Paul Romer, investor and co-founder of the hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates Ray Dalio, and other eminent thought leaders. All these discussions aimed to foster the economic ties between India and the United States.
Another notable highlight of this visit is that PM Modi will address a joint session of the US Congress on June 22, becoming the first Indian Prime minister to be given this honour twice. Amongst his predecessors , only a handful of Indian PMs have given speeches to US Congressmen and Congresswomen.
As per the reports following are the key events of his visit.
June 21 will be marked by his arrival at Joint Base Andrews , Washington DC , visit to the National science foundation of US, important business meetings and private engagement at the White House.
June 22 will be marked by Bilateral meeting at the White house , an address to the joint sitting of the US congress and a state dinner at the US White House.
June 23 will be marked by India U.S hi-tech handshake events , state department luncheon , business meetings, US ISPF- event at Kennedy centre and community event at Ronald Reagan Centre.
After this visit PM Modi will be heading to Egypt.
This visit of PM Modi to the US states is being viewed as a great step in the direction of fostering better ties between the two nations and strengthening India’s relations with the US. It is speculated that this visit will have positive impacts on the Indian economy and will help boost growth and development of India.
