Prof. Bindhya Wasini Pandey becomes the director of Central Himalayan Study Center of Delhi University.
The Central Center for Himalayan Studies is a center of the University of Delhi. This institutite works for the advancement of study and research of the Himalayan region. On September 05, the director of this center, Prof. Vindhyavasini Pandey was appointed who is working as a professor in the Department of Geography in Delhi University. Pro. Pandey’s connection with nature is very deep because he was born in Sultanipuri village of Danganj Bazar Cholapur block of Banaras.
This institution studies various aspects of the Himalayan region including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, and other Himalayan states and territories. The objective of this center is to establish a multi-disciplinary research center dedicated to studying the history, geography, society, economy, politics, culture, traditional knowledge, bio-resources, environment, sustainable development and related areas of the Himalayas. Various research projects, seminars, workshops, and other educational programs are conducted at this center dealing with various aspects of the Himalayan region. Moreover, this center serves as a source of prosperity for the Himalayan region and provides new opportunities to students and researchers for their studies and research in this region.
After receiving his primary education from Banaras, Prof. Pandey received his higher education from Delhi University. So far, more than 10 students have done PhD under his guidance. He has guided more than dozen students to persue MPhil. He has written more than 10 books. He has written more than 100 research papers and has experience of more than 50 field works. Along with being a Professor in the Department of Geography, he also holds important posts like Dean Work, Provost International Hostel Delhi University in Delhi University. On becoming the director of the Central Center for Himalayan Studies, Prof. Bindhya Wasini Pandey said that our first aim will be to bring awareness about the Himalayas to the common people. This will be the first effort for the people of the country and the world to know about this institution and all the people working on the Himalayan region can take maximum benefit from this center of Delhi University.
