PM Modi crosses 70 million followers on Twitter, gained 10 million followers in a year

It’s another milestone for PM Narendra Modi on Social Media as he reached 70 million followers on Twitter. With such huge numbers of followers, PM Modi is currently the second most followed political leader in the world after former US President Barack Obama, on Twitter.

PM Modi has started using the platform in 2009 as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and had used it extensively to communicate his opinions which he still does even today.

Barack Obama, the former President of the United States of America, is the most followed world leader on Twitter with 129.8 million followers although he is the not most active on it now. After PM Modi, Pope Francis, the Catholic religious head, is the third most followed leader.

The outgoing President of the USA, Donald Trump had 88.7 million followers until his account was permanently suspended by Twitter, at the beginning of 2021, following the US Capitol Hill riots. The incumbent US President, Joe Biden has 30.9 million followers.

It has taken twelve years for PM Modi to achieved this feat. He had touched the 60 million followers mark on Twitter in July 2020. He has gained ten million followers in an exact one year.
